ell, summer is almost gone and fall is

around the corner. this can be some

of the best fishing of the year, BUt

September 1st starts the problem. Yes, the opener of dove season; hunting starts for a lot

of anglers, hunting interferes with fishing and it gets

worse. Big game hunters that like to hunt deer, elk and

don’t forget pig hunting, it all starts as the weather

begins to cool down and the anglers turn into hunters.

But wait, if you are not a big game hunter, the

holy grail of hunting is water fowl and that starts in

october. The duck and goose hunters are a different

breed as they go in any weather, 30 to 40 mph winds,

let’s go, add rain, let’s go! Now if it is sunny, well, let’s

go! Funny as it may sound it’s the truth.

With your fishing rod feeling left out its ok, this is

part of the cleansing process for an angler. about this

time in the season you get caught up in a rut and find

yourself fishing the same old baits in the same

old areas. doing a little

hunting is recharging

your batteries.

Fall fishing is all

about adjusting each

and every day due to

the weather patterns

ups and downs. one

day it’s sunny and the

next day it’s overcast

and windy. The water

temperature starts

to fall, the fish start to

go on the feed so you need to be able to adjust in a moment’s notice.

let’s talk about food source, when the temperature drops the shad come into the system and the bass start to focus on white and chrome color baits. Swimbaits like optimum’s Blt or the new top of the line in a shad color can be deadly on a slow retrieve, ticking the tops of the weeds. Crankbaits in the same color can put a lot of bass in the boat and don’t forget ima’s rockin Vibe rattling bait. it looks like a shad and that is good enough for Mr. Bass. don’t forget Persuader’s spinnerbaits and buzzbaits in a chartreuse and white color.

if you see the shad busting on the surface, throw the ima Big Stik as it can be deadly not only on the black bass but on the stripers. They will travel together as they are eating the same food source. While all of these baits are being tossed out, the number one thing you need to find out is what depth the bass are feeding in so you will need to throw out these different baits to

find the feeding column. This will change each day

as the weather does so as a

hunter, take some time off

to recharge, it will make you

a better angler. don’t worry

“hunters” fall fishing will only

get better. You have time,

do a little of both. Can you

say, “add shad color to your

arsenal”?
