of cast, and the time in which is best for the bass to have optimal opportunity to capture a trout, our trout.

There are many tried and true swimbaits to choose from. I will generally keep it very simple with a small selection of options that can be fished at various depths. In this arsenal I will have a topwater (floater), slow sink (both soft-bodied and glidebait), and a moderate sink (soft-bodied). This allows me to be versatile without over complicating things.

Lastly, this style of fishing takes patience and persistence. Many days we fail in hooking up. However, each day that we gather information and practice our approach will lead us to the days where we find success. And, those days are the days of fishing we never forget. •

MIMICKING THE TROUT

So, how do we approach this time of the year with our oversized trout replications? The most basic thought process and approach that I have implemented for years, is to be one of those unknowing clueless little trout. If we cast our lure in a direction and swim towards an ambush area trapping ourselves, the outcome is our trout becomes the one that disappears. And that my fellow anglers is a good thing.

BIG BASS VARIABLES

There are too many subtle details to include in one article. However, the most important factor is timing in my opinion. A bass large enough to have grown to its size has been in the lake for multiple years. They will only feed in the best locations when the time is right. First, we must find the locations. Points, humps, bluffs, and obvious manmade structures are on the top of the list.

Then we need to figure out timing. Two variables that are noticeable while on the water are light and current. Once we have a location then we must determine the angle
