terminal tackle will help you quickly restock your tackle box, or pack for that upcoming fishing trip or tournament.
Hanging items on pegs, keeps them organized, in eyesight, and potentially within reach when you are sitting in your boat.
REVISIONS
If I were to do my garage over, I would do slatwall instead of pegboard. The reason is that the packages that hard baits, and especially soft plastics come in today, have way more variations in their dimensions than what a pack of soft plastic baits used to have. With slatwall you have more flexibility in how you can and arrange your baits.
As you think about your fishing garage, you want to consider not just the tackle you have now, but also the tackle you have in your boat, and anticipate the future fishing tackle you’ll have.
MORE STORAGE
Plastic storage cases can be stored shelves or in tubs or totes to hold extra bags of sorts plastics, or bins that have random items, or accessories for your boat. We constructed shelves out of 2” x 4”s and OSB board and put those behind the boat.
I also have a shelf above my pegboard where I keep my filled tackle trays, so they are within easy reach
when I’m in my boat rigging rods and putting tackle in the boat for an upcoming tournament.
Having a place to keep fishing rods out of the way, untangled and protected from getting stepped on, or broken is a for sure must. I have mounted racks on the wall where I can put back up rods, and rods that I don’t use on a regular basis. Then next to my boat I have a free-standing rod rack where I keep the rods I use throughout the season. This way they are within easy reach for rigging and putting into my rod box, and vice versa. I can pull rods out of the boat that I’m not using and put them back on the rack. I always store my rods with a Rod Glove on them, so they are further protected, and ready to go right into the rod locker.
One item that I don’t have in my garage is a finished floor. By a finished floor, I mean complete with an aftermarket product available from a hardware store or working with a seal with an epoxy coating. These finished floors really put a bow on your fishing garage, and give it a nice, clean, and classy look. From a functionality aspect, these floors also allow for easy clean up, prevent stains, and protect the concrete from chipping.
BONUS ITEMS
Two items that make your fishing garage complete,
but are not a necessity, are a TV and refrigerator. A
television is obviously nice to have during the fall and
winter months as you work on tackle.
Having a fridge next to your boat is nice, as you can
quickly grab ice, or freezer packs from the freezer and fill your cooler for your next fishing trip. I also keep all my energy drinks, protein shakes, and water in this fridge, so I can easily put them in the boat for the day.
As we get into the fall and offseason winter months the time to work on or create your fishing garage, or boat shed is here.
If you have an existing spot in the garage or your shed where you keep your boat and fishing tackle, you can take some of these ideas to enhance your space. If you are in a place where you create that DREAM fishing man cave, boat shop, take these ideas, and some of your own and get your dream started. •
