here are a variety of ways to target fall bass and
every angler has their strengths and favorites.
As we drift out of the hot summer days, we check in with two California kayak anglers and find out their
go-to’s and must-haves for fall bass.
Here we compare the methods and strategies for bass
catching on a reservoir as well as a shallow grassy lake of
both Rachel Uribe from Mira Mira and Max Lee from Fresno.
WB: What lure are you most confident in on a reservoir compared to shallow grassy lake like Clear Lake.
URIBE: For a reservoir, I like a Reaction Innovation Vixen with a 16-pound-test Sunline top shot. On a shallow grassy lake, I like throwing a buzzbait on straight 40-pound
Sunline braid. I use a custom 8-foot Performance Tackle rod with both lures that is paired with a 7:1 Daiwa Tatula reel.
LEE: During the fall, I love fishing lipless crankbaits, specifically the Lucky Craft LV500, on any body of water. It is an extremely versatile lure. You can fish it in a foot of water to 25-feet of water. For suspending fish, I like burning and hesitating the lure on a semi-slack line to imitate dying shad. When bass are located on the bottom, I can either fish it like a wobble head or fish it like a flutter spoon. On lakes with grass, my goal is to rip it out of the grass. A lipless crankbait is known to catch big bass; so, I change out the stock hooks for the Owner STX58 hook. I have caught multiple 10-pound bass and my personal best weighing
in at 13.3 pounds on a lipless crankbait. For my lipless
