WB: Will there ever be a Bass-A-Thon reboot? GROVER: Maybe one day in the next couple of years.
WB: Tell us about your background at Anglers Marine.
GROVER: My mom’s family started Champion Boats and that’s how she met my dad. My dad was selling Rangers, back in the day and now its just Ranger. I love it. Grown up here my whole life.
WB: Your Customer Appreciation events are second to none. What makes them so popular?
GROVER: Our Customer Appreciation tournaments are far and away the biggest in Southern California. To fish, you have to have bought a boat from us and we average 90 to 130 boats a tournament, so that shows how loyal are customer base is. The biggest thing is our events qualify for all the contingency programs for the boat lines we carry – Ranger Nitro and Triton. If you have a qualifying product four years old or newer, you win $8,000 on top of the 100 percent we payback. We keep no money. We pay right there at the event. It all goes to our customers. The most popular thing at our event is on the water hot dog delivery during in the event. At the last event of the year, we do a game show-style giveaway for a Ranger Boat. It’s a blast. Everyone loves it.
WB: What do you think is your fishing strength and weakness?
GROVER: I am a finesse guy – anything on the sonar. I’m a jig guy, topwater, lot of jerkbaits. Things that put numbers in the boat, but not really for the bigs ones. I could improve on crankbait fishing. I’m an okay punch fisherman but would love to get a two-day punch seminar on the water with Bub Tosh or Ken Mah. That would be awesome.

WB: Name one lure that you would completely buy out – clean the shelves – IF it was going to be discontinued.
GROVER: Morning Dawn Roboworm or a Green Pumpkin Yamamoto Slim Senko
WB: What’s something new your fishing?
GROVER: I love the entire line of the St. Croix Legend Tournament rods. Their Mag Swimbait with the Grasp Handle is an awesome rod for the Huddleston or Baitsmith Magnum. I just ordered my new Ranger. I cannot wait to run it next year!
WB: What is something you want everyone to know about you?
GROVER: I have three awesome kids and an awesome wife that watches ‘em when I’m fishing.
