yle Grover of Ranch Santa Margarita,
Calif. – If you haven’t met him through
Anglers Marine in Anaheim, you may have seen him on the water. He’s a regular competitor in
the Major League Fishing Western Division of the
Toyota Series and has racked up 10 top-10 finishes
spread throughout the California Delta, Clear Lake
and Lake Havasu as well as his win on Clear Lake. He
also fished his way to a top-3 in the WesternBass
Shootout among the touted Best of the West.
WesternBass caught up with Grover between
events to find out a bit more about the SoCal pro.
Here is what he had to say.
WB: The question that all successful western anglers are asked, do you want to go on tour?
GROVER: I am a western guy. I like having a house here, paying my mortgage, hanging with my family, and fishing what I have out here for the last five years, which is WON Bass and Major League Fishing.
WB: What do you attribute your success across the variety of fisheries that the West has to offer?
GROVER: I think the last few years it has been my focus on the electronics side. I know a lot of guys don’t like forward-facing sonar; but I’ve embraced it and made a lot of money over the past couple of years, just really dialing it in. I like it a lot. I think its fun and on a lot of the western reservoirs it makes a difference – pretty much anywhere I go, except the Delta. I’m staring at those.
WB: Do you think the guys that don’t make the leap to forward-facing are straight-off fishing from behind?
GROVER: I know it is expensive to keep up with that stuff, but yeah it is a disadvantage not to have them. No matter where you are, there can always be some shallow fish that don’t show. It just helps with not wasting your time. With forward-facing, you know right where your waypoint is, if there are fish around, if you are keeping your lure close to the structure – like with an A-rig – you can keep it right over the top of cover and keep it in the strike zone longer when
