Fall 2022
®
Make sure when fishing both the rocks and weeds that you take the time to check how sharp your crankbait hooks are during the day. If your hooks are dull, take the time to get them sharp again. It will pay off big dividends in your day of fishing.
JIGS
For many years it was etched in stone that a jig was the only bait to be fishing in fall conditions as the water temperatures were starting to drop. I now use a jig as a follow-up bait to take bass that are not as active as some of the others in the area.
Yes, if the bite is super tough, I will put a jig in my hand and grind out bites with the best of them. Jigs with a slower fall will trigger more bites as the water temperatures are on the decrease or in cases when you need to leave your bait in a bite zone longer to trigger strikes.
Jigs excel in this situation so do not write them off when the bite get tough. That is really when jigs shine and will put bass over the side of the boat.

Pay special attention to the size of the jig you are using in helping you to
get bites.
With the addition of braided line and
using a fluorocarbon leader, I can fish
a smaller jig than ever before.
With the limited stretch that
braid gives you, I can downsize my
jig to get a slower fall, but still have
the same feel as if I were fishing a
heavier jig.
Another option to slow your jigs
fall rate is to beef up your trailer.
When I need a slower fall from my
jig, I will change from a craw trailer
option to a creature trailer option.
The creature bait has a wider body
and offers my jig a slower fall as it
will catch more water on the fall
slowing down my jig.
I hope these fall tactics help
you put more bass in your boat
this upcoming season. By making
minor adjustments with your
lure choices and the areas that
you are fishing you can keep
the bite going late into the fall
season. One more adjustment
that you will have to make is
look at the weather forecast
and dress accordingly.
Have a Safe and bass filled
fall season. •
