WB: Now in your third season in the kayak, how have things been shaping up?

MYERS: Last season I was able to secure a tournament win, another top 5 and runner-up for the Angler of the Year race in the MKA Motherlode Series against a field of accomplished anglers.

WB: How were you introduced to the kayak?

MYERS: A good friend of mine introduced me to it in 2018 and I never looked back.

WB: How do you compare kayak tournament fishing to the big boats?

MYERS: Fishing from a kayak is much more challenging than fishingfromthebigboat. Kayakfishingmakestheanglerfishmore thoroughlyandpickeverythingapart. Youarelimitedinhowmuch

wateryoucancover. Youcan’t

jump from end of the lake to the

other like you can in the big boat.

You have to commit to a specific

area.

WB: Has your big boat fishing helped your kayak

fishing?

MYERS: It’s all about time on the water. The more time you have on the water, the better. In a boat, you can cover more water during pre-fishing compared to a kayak. Find a pattern and run that pattern throughout the lake. Then find another back up pattern and run that pattern. A bass boat is much more time efficient compared to a kayak. Also, A bass boat will help you learn the seasonal migration routes and fish patterning more efficiently.

WB: You got into kayak fishing in your mid-50s, what recommendations do you have for other anglers who are considering making the switch to kayak fishing but might be hesitant?
