o, what is the bait that you tie on? Asking that same question to Elite pro and SPRO
pro staff member Russ Lane, you see a wide smile across his face as he replies, “its
fall cranking time.” Let’s take a closer look at the fall cranking tactics Russ uses and get his insight as he
heads into the season.
FALL BASS MIGRATION
Just as bass make movements during the spring, the same thing happens again during the fall. Bass will start to leave the shallows, as the water starts to cool, and look for holding areas in deeper warmer water. Part of this movement will be driven by the comfort factor; but, one of the biggest reasons will be a food source movement. As the water temps drop, food sources will start moving deeper to stay in the warmer water and if the bass want to keep eating they will be on the move right there with them.
LOCATION
As the bass begin their fall journey, the will head towards deeper water. Lane’s first line of attack for their migration is to mimic the local baitfish that are also moving out.
“In the early part of the fall, you can get by with fishing a SPRO Aruku Shad,” said Lane.
The Aruku Shad mimics both of these food sources, while allowing you to cover water and get a good measure of the bass activity in the shallows.
