work a little deeper even when fishing fast. I will however adjust the size

of my offering to match the conditions of the day.

My color choices are simple, I like Chrome Blue on days with a lot of sun. When the fish are finicky or the water is extremely clear as it can be in the fall, I like a translucent color such as Spooky Shad. But by favorite color is Clear Chartreuse, it just plain catches them.

I like a softer tipped rod for throwing lipless cranks. The Cousins GP704T is a 7’ Popping Rod built on a moderate-action graphite blank that I have found to be especially well suited for rattlebaits. A 7:1:1 gear ratio 100 series casting reel spooled with 30-lb Sunline SX1 Braid completes my arsenal. If the fish are slapping at my bait and not getting hooked, I will add a short top shot of 12-lb Super FC Sniper Fluorocarbon.

Fall is a wonderful time to be on

the water. Mornings are cool,

afternoons are warm and the

spots are chewin’ lipless cranks.
