lthough Bassmaster Elite Series pro Fred “Boom Boom” Roumbanis no longer resides in California, his longtime experience on the Golden State’s Delta waters has influenced his fishing and is a basis for his success. He discussed a trio of fall favorites for the tidal water.
WAKE BAIT
“I designed one of my baits with IMA
specifically for fall fishing on the Delta,” he
said. “It is a wake bait called the Roumba.
It is for fishing shallow, basically on an outgoing tide, while retrieving it though

emergent grass without getting hung
up. The way that the bait wobbles was
created to deflect the grass away from the hooks. This design is what allows a treble
hook bait to be fished through the grass. It works spring through fall, but fall is my
favorite time to throw it.”
As a fall presentation, his first color choice for the Roumba is Hot Craw. He will
also throw Stink Bug (black with a yellow nose) and if the shad are present, he will tie
on Albino.
“I like to target the lakes with it,” he stated. “Big Break, Frank’s, any of the pond
lakes with the weeds and the current running through.”
He ties it on with 40 lb Gliss. “It is made by Ardent,” he stated. “It floats, it is
super-thin and cuts right through the grass. It works really well with topwater –
wake baits.”
