hen I see the trees turn color I know
the lake is turning over or at least
very close. Even though a jig is a year round great bait and some will argue the best
time of year to fish them, but for me, it’s fall that I
like for jigs. I suppose because the fish are still very
aggressive and feeding heavy. Especially as soon
as the lake turns over, it seems to always be about
57 degrees or less. Still a good top water time but
entering a great jig time as well. One great tip I can
share with you is when we are approaching a lake
turn over or just turned over the spots don’t quite
know what to do . Up, down, they’re just not sure.
So weather is huge. If you have a high pressure in
place, sunny and no wind, the spots just don’t want
to play shallow except the first hour or so in the
morning.
Although it’s hard to hit the perfect conditions on the lake to do what you want, it does not hurt to know what to do when those conditions are here. Don’t be fooled though. If you hear there is a severe cold front on the way, you better get out there and fish a day or two before. If it is a severe cold front, I mean the kind that even you wish you had stayed
