different species of fish have a different tolerance for hydrogen peroxide, so caution is needed when utilizing this. Certain species and even ages of fish are more sensitive to hydrogen peroxide. The temperature of the water can also make a difference in how the fish react to the chemical. The biggest thing to keep in mind when using this is to monitor the amount used. too much will definitely kill your fish. a good rule of thumb is to use approximately 1/3 of a cup for each side of your livewell. if you are not sure of the amount, use less. Some is good, but too much is very bad.

ICE

Summertime and ice go hand in hand. We all use it to keep our food cold and drinks frosty; but frozen water can also help save your catch. one common mistake among anglers is to use too much ice. They fill their livewells with ice and make the water very cold and then put a fish that was just in very warm water into the well. This creates a problem as the fish can suddenly go into shock and die due to the temperature difference. like hydrogen peroxide, less is better. another common problem with ice is the fact that many of the stores that sell ice often use water that contains chlorine or other chemicals. This can also cause a problem for your bass. a good solution to this problem is to freeze water bottles and plastic containers with water from your own house. i have found that the ice also tends to last longer with this method and you can be sure that your fish will not be exposed to any added chemicals.
