in a dry towel and put them in the livewell. i also throw a dry clean towel in each side of the livewell for the next time i go to the lake.
The last thing I do before I leave the lake is put the bilge plug back in and pour a half gallon to a gallon of white vinegar in my floor drain. on my drive home the vinegar will slosh around in the bilge and kill any Quagga larvae that may be in the water that is left in the bilge. once i get home and park my boat i put a bucket under the bilge drain and pull the plug. The plug stays out until the next time i go to a lake. You may read that a diluted chlorine solution is the best but vinegar works just as well and is not corrosive like bleach.
I know not all of you will do the next step but i’m a bit compulsive about my boat; i have it detailed once every 5 to 6 weeks. When my detailer shows up he brings a hot water pressure cleaner with him and does a decontamination procedure on my boat. While i don’t visit infested waters very often i still put my boat through the decontamination process. if i’m at Mead i have John at Callville Marina do it, if i’m at Havasu i do it when i get home but before i go to the next lake.
These procedures apply to any boat not just Bass Boats although extra steps need to be done for some boats and even more for boats with ballast tanks. Ballast tanks can not be drained completely dry and are a perfect way to transport the larvae.
