has drained to the point that the backwaters are unavailable to fish. Many of the bass move with the falling water, and concentrate outside the dunes where they are both easier to find and catch. it is not uncommon to catch dozens of largemouths, with many in the 3 to 5 pound range and larger.

like most lakes and rivers during the fall, current is a primary consideration when determining where to fish. The Crab Creek region has moving water, which helps concentrate the bass and make their holding places predictable. every point or spot where the current from Crab Creek scours the sand to produce deep water next to the shoreline is a top quality location to find and catch bass. much wood available in the lake during the fall, but if you find some it will hold both largemouths and big smallmouths ready to do battle.

a noisy topwater will bring up the bass in the early morning and late evening hours, but once the sun is well above the horizon it is time to switch to a vibrating jig tipped with a swimming Senko, or a Hildebrandt spinnerbait in a bluegill or perch color pattern. The new trulife painted blade series of Hildebrandt spinnerbaits incorporate realistic color patterns with premium components that call in the bass.

Water clarity is not a deal breaker, so heavy line will not hurt your chances for hooking and landing big bass. once the sun shuts down the shallow bite, find the deeper pockets and steep drop-offs, particularly where there is current, and drag a jig or twin tail Hula Grub across the deep sandy bottom.

don’t be afraid to use large plastics, including giant worms. The metabolism of the bass is high due to the warm water temperatures, and they are gorging in preparation for the winter. Serving the bass a big worm or Carolina-rigged lizard may be your best chance to land the lunker of your lifetime. Who knows, you may even land a bonus walleye or two that would make a great meal for the family.

When you get your fill of largemouths you can always head south to the dam region and fish the rocky shoreline and flats for the prolific smallmouth bass. a dropshot rig or a hula grub will keep you in plenty of action that will have you glad you made the trip. as evening approaches, throw out a Sammy or Gunfish topwater and the smallmouths will try to take it away from you.

No matter where you choose to fish in the Pacific Northwest, since it is Fall you will experience top-notch fishing and great weather with beautiful scenery. Get out there and get some! Ciao.
