COLLAR HOOKING
Preferred method for anchovies and also used for small sardines. Bait is hooked through the collarbone immediately behind the gill plates. This method helps to keep small baits lively and swimming just under the surface.
NOSE HOOKING
Hook bait either crosswise through the nose or up through both lips. Harder tissue in the nose means your bait is less likely to come off during casting. Also allows swimming the bait back to the boat.
HEART OR CHEST HOOKING
Hook shallow, crosswise through the breastbone or under pectoral fins. Don't hook too deep. Popular when fishing larger live baits, like brownbaits, near or on the bottom with a sinker.
