OUR MATERIALS:

Reading through this catalog, you may notice a few terms repeated in refer- ence to our graphite materials and performance ratings:

Modulus: The rating used to describe the stiffness-to-weight ratio of a fiber. Higher modulus materials are inherently lighter, and provide improved sensitivity. Tensile Strength: The maximum load that can be applied before the fibers fail. The higher the tensile strength of the fiber the stronger it is. Resin: Viscous material that infiltrates gaps in the laminate and encapsu- lates each fiber. Essentially, it’s the glue that bonds the blank together. The more advanced the resin system, the lighter and stronger the rod becomes.

Below, you’ll find descriptions of our proprietary technologies and corre- sponding performance benefits. Look for “tech-badges” identifying each of these technologies printed with product descriptions throughout the catalog.

Spiral X®

Shimano’s proprietary Spiral X technology utilizes triple layer construction consisting of an oblique fiber core layer, a longitudinal middle layer, and a reverse-oblique fiber outer layer. This unique construction increases rigidity without increasing weight, providing virtually instantaneous power transmission when casting or fighting a fish.

NRX®

Using very high-modulus material with incredible tensile strength, and our most advanced proprietary GL7 super resin system, rods built on the NRX matrix are the lightest, most sensitive graphite rods ever produced by G. Loomis. Up to 20% lighter and 25% stronger than comparable models in the GLX series, these rods are insanely light, recover quickly, and will help casters improve distance and accuracy, regardless of skill or ability.

GLX®

Predecessor to NRX, the GLX graphite system is a proven high- modulus blend coupled with a crazy-durable resin system. A cornerstone of the G. Loomis family for 20+ years, rods built on this platform are lightweight, responsive, and impact resistant.

Fiber Blends

With a focus on boosting performance, sensitivity, and durability, we began blending different modulus materials to achieve dynamic actions tailored to specific fishing environments or conditions. In choosing materials that enhance these performance characteristics, we were also able to reduce total blank weights across the board.

DESIGN + COMPONENTRY

CONDUIT CORE TECHNOLOGY

IMX-PRO is light in the right spots. Traditionally, as the blank diameter increased, so did the total amount of material. This was the only way to ensure strength and durability in the bottom half of the rod. CONDUIT CORE technology replaces excess wraps of graphite with a proprietary material of similar strength that’s lighter in weight, balances better, and boosts energy transfer through the blank. This improves efficiency, and reduces fatigue in fishing situations that require the animation of chunky flies, popping, chugging, stack mending, reach casting, and other repetitive motion.

Multi-Taper Design

G. Loomis’ custom mandrels are machined with multiple tapers to create precisely defined actions. Since the desired actions are attained using a minimal amount of material, G. Loomis rods are light, sensitive, and well-balanced.

Guides

We thoughtfully match each series with guides that enhance char- acteristics like performance, utility, or durability, with the environ- ment or species the rod was designed for in mind.
