Lake Havasu City – More Than an Angler’s Paradise

Lake Havasu City is well known as a mecca for anglers and

boaters. As a matter of fact, Lake Havasu was named among

the top 20 fishing lakes in the United States by Bassmaster in 2014.

What to do after you’ve caught your limit? There are countless

ways to enjoy Lake Havasu City, the lake and surrounding desert.

From boating and wakeboarding to fishing, golfing, hiking, gaming

and more, year-round recreation is enjoyed by over 775,000 visitors

annually. Major events including balloon festivals, fishing tournaments, fireworks convention, and drag boat races keep things interesting. Visit GoLakeHavasu.com for the most up-to-date information.

As the weather begins warming up in the late spring and summer season, the lake becomes the focal point for fun seekers – both visitors and locals. Here are just a few of the water-based activities and attractions that make Lake Havasu City a premier southwest destination:

Boating

Lake Havasu has a well-deserved reputation as one of the best boating lakes in the country. With no speed limits or size restrictions and plenty of room spread out over 60 miles of sparkling waterways, you can cruise or zip across the lake to your heart’s content. Many hidden coves line the shores of the lake and are ideal for staking out your own spot and spending time with friends and family.

Don’t forget about boating of the people-powered variety! Kayaking and canoeing are great ways to see the lake up close while getting a workout. Early morning is a good time to avoid the hottest part of the day and enjoy the lake at its most peaceful. It’s also the best time to spot the variety of desert wildlife that sur- rounds Lake Havasu.

Beaches

Come dig your toes into the sand and relax at the beach! The most popular beaches that are easily acces- sible within city limits are Lake Havasu State Park, London Bridge Beach, and Rotary Community Park. Shaded ramadas are the perfect place for a picnic or barbecue. All three of these beaches are accessible by boat or car for your convenience. Spend the day swimming or wading – London Bridge Beach and Rotary Community Park both have dedicated swim areas buoyed off for your safety.

Wakeboarding & Waterskiing

Lake Havasu has calm water and coves that are ideal for riding and skiing out of the main lake traffic. New to waterskiing or wakeboarding? There are several rental companies in Lake Havasu City that offer lessons and rent specialized boats for skiing and wakeboarding, as well as all the equipment you’ll need. Remem- ber basic safety rules – skiers and wakeboarders (as well as anyone being towed on an inflatable device) must wear a life jacket and a minimum of two people must be on board the boat while towing someone. Skiing and wakeboarding are permitted from sunrise to sunset only.

The London Bridge

No trip to Lake Havasu City would be complete without a visit to the London Bridge, which was purchased by city founder Robert P. McCulloch and transplanted from foggy London to sunny Arizona in 1968. Take a walk both beneath and across the span to appreciate both the architecture and history behind the city’s showpiece. Take a look at the London Bridge display in the Lake Havasu City Visitor Center for the history and fun facts about the bridge and then set off to explore on your own.
