BASSMASTER ELITE CHAMPION

Originally from San Jose, Calif., Chris Zaldain got his start fishing on the tidal water fishery of

the California Delta. He joined the Bassmaster Elite Series in 2012, after qualifying through the 2011 B.A.S.S. Central Opens. Zaldain’s first B.A.S.S. victory came on the famed big bass fishery of Clear Lake in Califor- nia, during a 2005 Western Open. His most recent was earned in 2015, when he claimed the victory in the 2015 Toyot a Angler of the Year Championship on Sturgeon Bay in Wisconsin. His 15 top-10 finishes and two Classic appearances have helped him gross nearly $500,000 in career earnings with B.A.S.S. His local experience on the Delta and nearby Clear Lake seem to have put Zaldain on a path to big bass catches that he has expanded on throughout B.A.S.S. tournament destinations. Of note are his Day 1 lead at this year’s Toyota Texas Bass Classic on Lake Ray Roberts. His limit went 21-pounds, 4 ounces and was anchored by a kicker fish at 7-pound, 12-ounces. Last year, Zaldain held up an awe-striking five-fish limit at the Elite stop for the Sacramen- to River that weighed in at 30-pounds, 7-ounces, bolstered two bass over seven. The small- er tipped the scales at 7-pounds, six-ounces and the bigger garnered the honor of largest catch of the Series last year at 12-pounds even. They presently call the Lone Star state their home with their rescue pup Nebo.
